Trump To Be Certified by Harris Today
Border, Energy, Taxes, Bitcoin, Ross Ulbricht: Trump's Promises
Today, January 6, 2025, a day of irony, Vice President Kamala Harris will preside over the certification of Donald Trump to be America’s 47th President of the United States. While this date of one year ago marks four years since the Capitol Hill demonstration/attack, many in Congress stated over the weekend that they could not make it back to D.C. for the certification due to Impending snow coming into the area. It also marks her definitive defeat as she must formally acknowledge Trump’s win. Some will see the optics of Harris presiding over the certification as poetic justice. In contrast, others will view it as an unfortunate but necessary part of her duty as President of the Senate and Vice President of the United States.
Despite the past's shadows, our electoral system moves forward, ensuring that the will of the people, not the will of politics or chaos, prevails. Today’s certification demonstrates that even in the face of historical grievances, the genius of our constitutional republic still prevails. No single event can permanently derail the constitutional order.
Meanwhile, more political theater with Kamala Harris certifying Trump’s win, as she was his opponent in the 2024 presidential election. Under our system, Harris, as Vice President, must preside over the certification process and show how our elected officials should perform their duties, regardless of partisan politics, while ensuring law rather than individual whims or party lines interfere.
Donald Trump is set to retake the White House on January 20, 2025, putting forth an ambitious legislative agenda that will be historic if he follows through. Starting with his “Day One” promises of freeing Ross Ulbricht, rolling back many of Biden’s energy policies, creating a Bitcoin reserve for the U.S., tax cuts, and tariffs, and rebuilding the border wall.
One can hope that Trump’s actions will bring economic freedom to Americans by dramatically reducing regulations. This would unleash the opportunity for innovation, entrepreneurship, and consumer choice while reducing their dependency on government resources.
While his 2017 tax cuts were very helpful for all Americans, not just the rich, we can hope that Trump 2.0 will do what he should have done in 2017: dramatically reduce spending to help thwart our ballooning federal debt caused by heavy deficit spending.
While I hope the Trump administration will do the right things in the next four years, I do not see it happening. For example, the D.O.G.E., run by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, is not an actual government agency, yet it has been tasked with reducing $2 trillion of federal spending. A Libertarian could do this in a heartbeat; the realities of our American politics make this less likely.
Under our constitutional republic, we should all embrace the idea that change comes from the ballot box, not from coercion or violence. Today’s presidential certification reminds us of the importance of maintaining civil dialogue and respect for our constitutional republic process, even when outcomes are not to one's liking.
Today's certification is more than a political event; it's a reaffirmation of our commitment to the principles of liberty, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power. It's an opportunity for libertarians to engage with the political process, advocate for policies that align with our values, and ensure that government remains a servant of the people, not its master. As we move forward, let's focus on fostering a society where freedom, responsibility, and respect for individual rights form the foundation of our collective future.
Here's to hoping that the upcoming administration will tread the path of liberty in rhetoric and follow through with action. Today's certification might be symbolic, but the work for freedom is ongoing and relentless.
