Trump Promises No Social Security Cuts, Plans Tax Relief
Candidates and media fearmonger on cuts, but Trump vows to end Social Security taxes on supplemental income.
While the 2024 presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has spoken out in support of continuing the Social Security program and boasted about not touching it during his four years as president, other candidates are trying to fearmonger voters into believing he will cut or eliminate Social Security if elected. He’s also spoken out to support ending the taxation on Social Security income should someone take on a job to help supplement their income.
Frankly, I never understood why some are paying a tax on a tax they’ve already paid; that is insane, to say the least. I remember when Ronald Reagan enacted this in 1983. I disagreed with it then and disagree with this law now. It was supposed to help plug the upcoming unsustainability of the Social Security program, but morally, I find it objectionable.
Now, one can choose whether that is a good or bad thing, but to falsely claim he is seeking to cut their social security checks when, in fact, he’s seeking to stop the cutting already going on is insane reporting and blatant lies. If it’s important to you can review what effect this will have on the deficit here: https://www.crfb.org/blogs/donald-trumps-suggestion-end-taxation-social-security-benefits
Trump is talking about helping those who take on a job after taking Social Security. For example, if you're single and your income is at least $25,000, up to 50% of your Social Security benefits may be taxable. If you're married and filing jointly, up to 50% of your benefits may be taxable if your income is at least $32,000.
Now, whether he can do this, I don’t know, and I don’t believe much of anything coming from either Harris or Trump, quite frankly. But it is hard to understand where all this misinformation is coming from when many in the public are under the impression Trump is going to cut their Social Security checks when, in fact, he’s stating the complete opposite, helping people keep more of their benefits, especially when many seniors take on extra work. When even CNN is telling you Harris is spewing false information, you know Harris is lying on the matter.
