Stanford's transformational vocabulary has gone ultra woke
Stanford University updates banned words list, replaces "you guys" with "folks, people, or everyone" and "seminal" with "leading or groundbreaking
Hi Friends! That is if I can still say that anymore. The once-prestigious Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and its administrators have updated their banned words list. For instance, if you wish to use the term “you guys” it must now be “folks, people, or everyone.” And the word “seminal” is now “leading or groundbreaking.”
I kid you not folks! And anything with the word “man” in it has been put on the chopping block (oops, can I say that either?). For instance, “mankind” is now “people, human beings, or humankind.” There are several eliminations of “man” because as we all know men are now toxic to society. Also “ladies” is now “everyone.” And if you were thinking of using the introduction “Good Morning ladies and gentlemen…” Don’t do that! Gentleman has been banned as well. So just say “Good Morning Everyone…” so no one is offended by your outrageous use of gender-based language.
This actually began before May 2022; but in May of this year, the university created a list of prohibited terms and issued its Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative (EHLI). Its latest update to this effort was once public and is now behind a password-protected page. Why not keep the page public if the university is so proud of this change? Perhaps because the update includes the banning of the word “American” which is now “U.S. Citizen.” On this particular update, Stanford issued the following CYA statement: “The intent of this particular entry [American] on the EHLI website was to provide perspective on how the term may be imprecise in some specific uses, and to show that in some cases the alternate term “US citizen” may be more precise and appropriate. But, we clearly missed the mark in this presentation.”
Stanford charges about $20,000 per quarter for this quality education, just in case you want to send your child (young person?).
