FBI Director says China obstructed Covid-19 origin probe
FBI believes Covid-19 probably originated from a "potential lab incident" in Wuhan
There's a storm brewing, folks, and it's all about the origins of Covid-19. FBI Director Chris Wray has come out swinging, claiming that the Chinese government has been doing its best to stymie investigations into the virus's origins. Wray believes that Covid probably came from a "potential lab incident" in Wuhan, but the Chinese are not playing ball. This comes on the heels of the U.S. Energy Department’s revelation of what all of us already knew, that COVID-19 was released from a gain-of-function lab in Wuhan, China. Even though such assertions were shot down as conspiracy theories over the last three years, we are coming together to realize the conspiracy theories were actually correct and true.
"The FBI has been onto this for quite some time now," Wray told Bret Baier. "We've assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan. But the Chinese government has been doing its best to thwart and obfuscate the work here, the work that we're doing, the work that our U.S. government and close foreign partners are doing. And that's unfortunate for everybody."
It's a bold claim, but one that the Chinese Embassy in Washington has not responded to. However, the U.S. Energy Department has concluded that Covid "likely" originated from a laboratory leak in Wuhan, according to a classified report delivered to key lawmakers. The report was commissioned by President Joe Biden and released by the National Intelligence Director's Office in August 2021.
But the Chinese are not taking this lying down. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has hit back, accusing the U.S. of "politicizing" the issue of Covid traceability. Mao has previously criticized the Energy Department assessment, pointing to a report by a World Health Organization mission to Wuhan that found it "extremely unlikely" that the virus originated in a lab. The U.S. and other countries have criticized the report, saying China withheld data.
It's a messy situation, folks, and one that's only going to get messier. The CIA is one of two intelligence agencies that are undecided about the virus's origins, so expect more fireworks in the weeks and months to come.
