Empowerment Through Liberty: Women Redefine Freedom
We live in the best times to live the life promised by the 1970s “Women’s Liberation Movement.”
We are in an interesting time in history when American women have a strong desire for freedom of their own bodies and are in an uproar supporting one presidential candidate based on the idea women want the freedom to have an abortion. One presidential candidate tells them that if they vote for them, they’ll retain that freedom, while another presidential candidate keeps them from doing so. This dynamic has created a charged political landscape, where the struggle for women's bodily autonomy is a central issue influencing electoral preferences and shaping the future of gender equality in the United States.
The right to make decisions about one’s body, career, and relationships without interference from government or societal pressures is tantamount. Based on history, neither the Republican nor Democratic political parties align with this right, regardless of their current or past rhetoric.
However, getting away from politics, women should always have the right to take charge of their own lives and take responsibility for their decisions regardless of government or societal norms. Women should break away from the past when they did not have financial independence from their husbands and can do what they want, when they want, and how they want. To suggest otherwise is the opposite of the freedom we all have just for being humans, and especially for women, who have been so oppressed in the past. Thankfully, modern women can be independent of their husbands (if in a marriage), and this is both empowering for women and can cause relationships to thrive.
Women can succeed in life, living a life of self-reliance through entrepreneurship, adopting Bitcoin, and rejecting societal expectations and institutional dependencies. Bitcoin allows women to bypass traditional financial systems, giving women full control over their money. Remember when women needed their husbands or fathers to open a bank account for them? We have evolved, offering women far more freedom, thank goodness, and our currency is evolving just as well via Bitcoin.
While there is nothing wrong with a woman or man being a homemaker, couples should enjoy the libertarian value of autonomy. Couples should feel free to reject societal norms and engage in their lives in ways that work best for them. Women and couples should be able to pursue their financial independence so they can live a life of liberation. Libertarianism offers them this ability more than other philosophies.
Libertarianism is about rejecting dependency on the government and, as such, often rejects outdated norms, which can make libertarian ideals controversial. After all, Libertarians have long been advocates of marijuana legalization when it was met with great adversity. Yet, it is now not seen as the threat many thought it once was. Similarly, issues like gambling, the “right to die,” Bitcoin, and same-sex marriage are some of the many issues libertarians have been right on. Still, it took society a while to accept and often embrace. Why? Because all libertarian issues are based on freedom.
As we all know, government programs and mandates restrict one’s personal freedoms. In the past, they restricted women’s ability to make their own choices in education, healthcare, and employment, for example. Women should reject such restrictions and embrace the freedom of libertarianism.
From Rose Wilder Lane of “Little House on the Prairie” fame to Ayn Rand (“Anthem,” “The Fountainhead”), many women have charted their own paths in life. Now is a perfect time for women to break free from government dependency and societal norms. We live in the best times to live the life promised by the 1970s “Women’s Liberation Movement.”
Libertarianism is the perfect tool to empower women and men, offering everyone the tools they need to own their lives. From reproductive rights to career choices to living in a relationship/marriage as they choose, libertarianism provides a framework for women to make informed, independent decisions.
Some libertarian principles help women keep more of their earnings, invest in their ventures, or use their income as they see fit, promoting financial independence by getting the government out of their finances. Libertarianism gets the government out of a woman’s reproductive rights, lets women live the lifestyle they choose based on their values, offers free expression, to be educated in the school of their choice ( and their children ), encourages free trade with others, and eliminates “victimless” crimes. All these reasons, and more, are good for women and society.
Libertarian values champion the essence of personal autonomy, empowering women to cast aside the shackles of outdated societal norms and embrace a life defined by their own choices. By valuing self-governance, women are encouraged to take the helm of their destiny, steering through life with the compass of individual responsibility. This philosophy promotes self-reliance and celebrates financial independence as a cornerstone of true freedom, allowing women to make decisions unencumbered by economic dependency. As women adopt these principles, they reject the idea that their paths should be dictated by anything other than their own will and ambition. Libertarianism calls on every woman to explore this path of self-empowerment, where the pursuit of one's goals, the freedom to express one's identity, and the right to personal fulfillment are not just ideals but tangible realities. By doing so, women can redefine empowerment on their terms, crafting lives filled with purpose, choice, and unbridled potential.
